Letter From Secretary-General

Dear Delegates, Sponsors, and other Attendees,

It is my honor to welcome you to the sixth iteration of the annual Model United Nations Conference hosted by students and staff at Freeman High School on December 12-13, 2025.

I first became a part of FreeMUN as a delegate in elementary school, as a little 5th grader in a Harry Potter committee at Moody Middle School. In my past years in Freeman, I have ventured out by becoming more involved in Freemun conferences. First, as a chair for two years, I am beyond honored to have served on the secretariat these past two years.

This year, we are pleased to offer nine culturally and geographically diverse committees, ranging from a committee on the Wakandan Council to a historic Papal Conclave. A prominent characteristic of Model UN is its ability to improve participants’ speaking, researching, and writing skills; we hope that our wide committee selection allows delegates to pursue what they are passionate about while attaining valuable lifelong skills.

Additionally, FreeMUN VI’s partner charity is the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities (VCIC). VCIC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing legal assistance to low-income individuals. Their mission is to ensure equality and justice in the legal system and maintain the health and stability of families affected by their experiences with civil matters. By offering free legal services, VCIC is able to contribute to the community in a meaningful way through justice, much like the mission of the United Nations. Delegates, we hope you take the time to support this wonderful organization by buying baked goods, t-shirts, candy grams, and more during the conference weekend.

This charity was also selected because of Freemun VI’s conference theme, Dare to Discover. It is frequent that students find themselves fitting in the box or a rubric, whether in school or in their personal lives. With Model UN, however, we get the chance to do something unexpected; to learn and create something new. As we passionately discuss issues and ideas relevant to today’s society(fictional and real), I hope that each delegate will embrace the new and take a chance to discover something that’s never been done before, whether that be picking a new black panther or building a country on another planet. There is so much more out there left to learn, and the bounds are limitless; so, this year, I encourage each delegate to try something new and dare to discover.

Finally, I hope you all will take the time to be a part of a weekend that means so much to me and the rest of the FreeMUN staff and secretariat. We are so excited to make this conference just as important a tradition to all of you as it is to us. See you in December.

Sincerely,

Nikita Rajan
