The General Assembly is the primary policy-making organ of the UN. It consists of 193 states that use resolutions to promote global cooperation, protect human rights, and peacefully settle disputes among countries. There are six main bodies as well as smaller committees that discuss more specific topics based on issues of certain regions, fields of study, and industries.
Specialized agencies are smaller than general assemblies and focused on a more specific topic. They usually act through resolutions, directives, or both. At times, these committees may use a backroom but do not necessarily.
Crisis committees are smaller committees targeting the most experienced delegates. Similar to other committees, there is plenty of front-room discussion and debate. However, they differ in their inclusion of backroom directives that can be carried out by themselves or with the help of others. There are also crisis updates based on private and public directives that can suddenly change the direction of a committee.
